Paris is getting ready for the Olympic Games

Olympic fever is about to seize Paris. To ensure that the Olympic fortnight will be a resounding success, the capital is taking advantage of all its assets and putting everything into the preparations. The Hotel Queen Mary team has been in the front row as the city rehearses to get ready for Paris 2024. Here’s a brief preview...

The magic begins

The summer of 2023 was an opportunity for the organising committee of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games to test several phases of this global sporting competition that will be held in the capital from July 26th to August 11th, 2024. The idea of these rehearsals was to verify all the logistical, technical and organisational aspects that this type of huge event must get right and to coordinate the work of all involved. The festival began on July 17th with a boat parade on the Seine. Some 50 boats set out on the river to test this part of the opening ceremony.

Successes and challenges

Paris hosted the Archery World Cup from August 17th to 20th on the splendid Esplanade des Invalides. An entertainment village and introductions to this still little-known sport also appealed to visitors. On August 5th and 6th and then on August 17th and 18th, several swimming events had been planned and were to be run in the Seine. Unfortunately, the abundant precipitation deteriorated the water quality, forcing the organisers to cancel these tests for the safety of the athletes. This valuable lesson will undoubtedly be remembered for next year.

During the summer of 2024, the entire City of Paris will switch to Olympic time. The most prestigious venues will host various sports, adding to the magic of the games as a whole. Ideally located in the heart of Paris, the Hotel Queen Mary is the ideal starting point for fully experiencing this unique global event.
